![]() If you know the apothem and the side length, simply use the formula area = ½ x perimeter x apothem. The apothem is the distance from the exact center of the polygon to the center of any of the sides. If a polygon is regular-that is, all of its sides are the same length-you can easily find the area given the side length and the apothem. There are six of these sides to the hexagon, so multiply 20 x 6 to get 120, the perimeter of the hexagon.Ī polygon is any kind of closed, 2-dimensional shape with at least 3 straight sides and no curves. The bottom side of the triangle is 20 units long. You know that x = half the length of the bottom side of the triangle. If 10√3 represents "x√3," then you can see that x = 10. You know that the side across from the 60 degree angle has length = x√3, the side across from the 30 degree angle has length = x, and the side across from the 90 degree angle has length = 2x.The apothem cuts one of them in half, creating a triangle with 30-60-90 degree angles. You can think of it this way because the hexagon is made up of six equilateral triangles. Think of the apothem as being the "x√3" side of a 30-60-90 triangle. If the apothem is provided for you and you know that you're working with a regular polygon, then you can use it to find the perimeter. If the perimeter is provided for you, then you're nearly done, but it's likely that you have a bit more work to do. Full symmetry of the regular form is r10 and no symmetry is labeled a1.Find the perimeter of the polygon. John Conway labels these by a letter and group order. These 4 symmetries can be seen in 4 distinct symmetries on the pentagon. Since 5 is a prime number there is one subgroup with dihedral symmetry: Dih 1, and 2 cyclic group symmetries: Z 5, and Z 1. The regular pentagon has Dih 5 symmetry, order 10. ![]() Blue mirror lines are drawn through vertices and edges. Vertices are colored by their symmetry positions. Construct a regular hexagon on stiff paper or card.Folding one of the ends back over the pentagon will reveal a pentagram when backlit. A regular pentagon may be created from just a strip of paper by tying an overhand knot into the strip and carefully flattening the knot by pulling the ends of the paper strip.Physical construction methods Overhand knot of a paper strip This process was described by Euclid in his Elements circa 300 BC. The camera then chooses a shutter speed of either a 1/200th or 1/40th of a second and we get a perfect exposure. The Trip 35 accomplishes this sorcery by determining the amount of light that enters a Selenium photo cell surrounding the lens, and choosing a correct aperture based on this reading. This was in no uncertain terms an engineering miracle. Automation seemed a distant (and expensive) fantasy, so when Olympus created a genuine auto-exposure camera out of primitive nuts and bolts, the world took notice. It’s as well designed as any machine of its day, more impactful when we recall that the Trip came of age in an era where cameras were still fully mechanical, save for the occasional battery powered light meter. The design is classic Olympus clean-cut lines and an impossibly small form factor, the Trip wastes no time and gets straight to the point. Olympus’ design house, fresh off the ingenious half-frame Pen F, struck gold again with the Trip. Good design marries aesthetics to functionality, and the the camera gods couldn’t have picked a better company to bring the Trip 35 to life. Instead, they required a camera that was simple to use, but sophisticated enough to beautifully capture their memories. Racing from landmark to landmark and airport to airport, these sightseers simply lacked the time and interest needed to learn the boring particulars of photography required to operate a camera. Olympus achieved these massive numbers by appealing to the casual shooter rather than pro photographers, specifically focusing on the new generation of moneyed vacationers. More impressive still, the Trip 35 actually outsold the Nikon F and the Leica M2 by millions. Just as the F and the M defined the SLR and rangefinder genres respectively, the Trip 35 defined the point-and-shoot game. This camera, although not as capable as the other two, holds an equally lofty place in photographic history. One would think the Olympus Trip 35 would seem out of place next to legendary cameras like the aforementioned Nikon and Leica, but it actually fits right in. There I found a beautiful Trip 35 for an absurdly low price, bought it, and quickly threw it in my bag. And if the Trip 35 was the prescription, the Pasadena Camera Show was the pharmacy. Its reputation for ease of use and high quality seemed the perfect cure for my shooter’s block. The Olympus Trip 35 is a camera I’d heard a lot about but had never tried myself. I needed an easier camera, and I had a feeling one camera in particular could fit the bill – the Olympus Trip 35. ![]() I just needed a change from the manual cameras that sat on my shelf. But I didn’t need a full-on vacation from the hobby itself – no, that would be too drastic. And it was while I was lying face down on a pillow listening to the opening lines of Chicago’s “Hard To Say I’m Sorry” that I realized I did, in fact, need a little time away. Sufficiently depressed, I decided to stay home and put my cameras on the shelf. Every time I peered through their viewfinders I saw nothing but dust in the pentaprism and emptiness between the framelines. Even the storied reputations of my F and M2 failed to inspire me. The images I tried to form seemed trite and overplayed, and I soon lost confidence in my ability to make a decent picture. But instead of plunging into a world filled with beauty, intrigue, and possibility, I found my surroundings cold, ugly, and indifferent. I jumped out of bed one morning full of energy, ready to take on the world with my trusty Nikon F and Leica M2. It’s shooter’s block, our equivalent to writer’s block, and it hit me hard over the summer. ![]() ![]() It can render the best shooters incapable of even the simple task of pressing a shutter button. The world has been saved but Atlantis was destroyed, its people weakened and their hero Arkantos vanished. Then there is a new campaign set 10 years after the climax of the main game. A Titan is far more powerful than a group of top tier mythical units and can crush an army of enemy units with ease. These are really resource and time costly but also devastating. Atlanteans are powerful but units are expensive and upgrades need more resources. Also they do not need to build gathering buildings as workers are those too and they get favor (faith) by having town centers (The more the faster). Atlanteans have no hero units but can promote regular units to heroes making those better. As by the main game standards those have unique units and features compared to other factions. This game adds a fourth faction with the Atlanteans which is quite nice as many of us were thinking about why Greeks and Atlanteans were the same. You start with one of the main gods of the pantheon including bonuses and with each advancement you can chose between 2 different additional gods with different improvements. The differences to the other “Age of” games are the gods and the favor resource.
